Oh dear.... This task a little bit hard for me to understand. Before I did the traceroute, I read the explanation at http://computer.howstuffworks.com/router11.htm. Next I used http://centralops.net/co/entralops.net/co/ to traceroute to curtin.edu.au. This is the result :
Through the result there are 21 hops and the average time is 246 milliseconds from the tools site to curtin server. From there I can see the Curtin IP address is 134.7.179.53.
Traceroute is a very important and useful tool for observing and diagnosing network behaviour. It can show you the route data packets are taking across a network, and how well they're making the trip, by, in effect, incrementally pinging each successive hop. This the first time I learnt about traceroute and it is very interesting task.
